On the turn of the XIV and XV centuries mantel and room clocks began usually to be found. They were created of iron and were wound with the assistance of weight. The scheme and elements were similar to usual tower clocks the same as the look.

In the Gothic epoch clocks were put in walls' consoles. Later on a wood corbel became a part of clocks' frame and was mounted the same style and ornament as clocks had. In rich houses it was one of the decor elements of premises. In each apartment clocks played an important role. They were a part of the stylistic ensemble that was stuck to the fashion of an epoch. The most prominent asters of applied art such as Roentgen, Goutier and Benemann, also worked over the artistic view of their clocks. Their clocks were definitely magnificent and there were no analogs in the world. But in the XVIII century different clock masters began to copy the models of the most beautiful clocks.
